Every guide on SplitSecnd is researched, written, and reviewed by the SplitSecnd editorial team. We are a small independent group of writers and researchers; we do not publish under individual bylines at this stage, but every page carries a last-updated date so you can see how current it is.
How pages are researched
- Primary sources first. Rules, statistics, and requirements come from official sources: NHTSA and its FARS database, IIHS, the CDC, state DMV and MVC manuals, FMCSA for commercial rules, and manufacturer documentation for products.
- Every factual claim is traceable. Where a page cites a number - a fatality rate, a discount range, a reaction time - we link the source it came from, or we soften the claim to what the evidence supports.
- Products are described, not invented. When a page is based on published specifications rather than hands-on testing, it says so. We do not claim to have tested what we have not.
How pages are reviewed and updated
- Draft against primary sources, with each key claim checked against the current official document.
- Editorial review for accuracy, clarity, and completeness of the sources list.
- Publication with a last-updated date, which we revise whenever a page's facts change.
- Periodic re-checks of time-sensitive pages - state GDL rules, prices, program terms - against the current official source.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment for coverage or rankings.
- We do not publish medical, legal, or insurance advice; our pages explain how things work and point you to the professionals and official sources that apply to your situation.
